Roofing Hoist materials list. This is a REVISED list for building ONE platform. The list of materials on the disk will build 5 platforms from a 32 ft ladder. You can contact me (Terry Blount) via email: tblount7@yahoo.com or cell phone 251-382-7648 if you need assistance. There are 5 videos that take you through every step of the process. The first video covers the materials, nuts and bolts and cutting the aluminum. (Note: Rather than getting aluminum sheeting like in the video, I would use a board, plywood or something like an old road sign for the platform base - if I were only building one unit for myself.) The second video covers the tools needed and instructions for marking the ladder cuts. (Note: For one platform you only need to use (cut) 3 ft from your upper ladder section. Then you would still have your extension ladder - except 3 ft shorter.) The third video covers cutting the ladder and the first stage of assembly. The forth video covers the compleat assembly of the platform. The fifth video covers attaching the motor, platform and pulley to the ladder. This video is ALSO on Youtube. There is bonus video that demonstrates total assembly of the platform including drilling holdes etc, in 23 minutes. (After you build about 100 platforms you'll do it even faster.) Tip: Save $$$ - pick up a Low's 10% discount from eBay... usually $1 and just download and print. Materials: 1 aluminum extension ladde (I don't think a fiberglass ladder will work) Electric Hoist motor 880 lb lift - phone in order to Harbor Freight (800-423-2567) and give # 44006-5TEA and the price may still be $69 plus $8 shipping. Most of the time you can find a $10 coupon code online and apply it. Shipping is usually lower than local taxes anyway. If the code doesn't work, check online harborfreight.com and see if you can find it on sale. Normal price is about $130 --- a 440 lb lift will work if you don't plan to use the hoist on a regular basis. It will lift up to 4 bundles of shingles and cost about $50. NOTE: I have found it's cheaper to buy a full box of nuts, bolts and washers than buying them individually. 2 5 inch U-bolts - 5/16 B4520 1 3 inch U-bolts - 5/16 B4480 1 Box (50) Machines Bolts with nuts 1/4 - 20 x 3/4 35215 1 Boxes (100 total) Machine Bolts with nuts 1/4 - 20 x 1/2 35214 1 Box 5/16 - 18 Nylon stop nuts 180150 4 5/16 x 2 inch Bolts 2 5/16 x 1 inch Bolts 2 1 inch Flat Brackets B7370 1 box 5/16 Flat Washers (100) 03827 1 box 5/16 x 1 1/4 Fender Washers (100) 03932 1 box 5/16 x 1 5/8 Fender Washers (100) ( Ace Hardware Store - Not available at Lowes) 03937 1 1/2 x 6 inch Eye Bolt - with washers and lock nuts. GET THE EYE WELDED OR IT WILL NOT HOLD Plywood or a board about 1 ft x 2 ft for the base the materials will rest on (if you are raising full sheets of plywood, solar pannels or AC compressors, your base probably should be larger. Be SURE to bolt it on the platform to prevent spills.) 4 ft 1 inch x 1/8 thick steel flat bar. NOTE: if you don't plan on loading the max weight the motor can lift, these supports can be shorter (6 or 8 inch) flat brackets like B7370) 4 feet 1.75 X 1.75 inch 14 gauge square tubular steel. NOTE: The square galvanized road sign post with holes every inch is perfect. This list on cd says 2 x 2 inch but I was told the brackets shipped with the hoist were slightly too small to go around 2x2 inch square bar that the motor mounts to.
